Some stuff came in over the last few days. The two Ghost in the Shell blurays are Japanese imports via Amazon JP. I’ve gotten tired of waiting on Funimation to do something with GitS Arise: Alternative Architecture, so I decided to complete my collection of the JP Arise releases with the Pyrophoric Cult bluray. With these two discs, I believe I now have all of GitS on bluray. The two standard releases of the Toradora! bluray are the last of my holiday purchases and the Yamadas bluray completes my collection of Studio Ghibli movies on bluray.

I believe the next thing I have coming in will be the Yuri on Ice LE from Funimation that releases next week.

My Haul

More pics of stuff I picked up recently. First pic is all holiday sale purchases.

Ghost Sweeper Mikami Vol. 1-4 (Sentai), One Piece Collection 17-18 (Funimation), Nichijou (Funimation), Record of Lodoss War OVA & TV (Funimation), Blood Blockade Battlefront S1 (Funimation), Code Geass S1-2 (Funimation)

Next image is mostly holiday sale items except for the bottom two, where were preorders.

Death Note: Omega Edition (VIZ), Himawari! S1-2, Pet Girl of Sakurasou Complete Collection (Sentai), Sailor Moon Crystal S3 LE, Squid Girl S1-2 + OVA LE

Next, I have a few shots of the Gundam Wing Ultra Edition set that I preordered. When you take the lid off, the first thing you see is the full sized, hardbound artbook. Underneath that are the posters and artcards. Dig a bit further and you find the blurays, pins and and more artcards.

And lastly, one more set of preorders.

Sword Art Online ~Ordinal Scale~ LE and Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt: Bandit Flower (standard BD; imported from Japan)

Recent Purchases

I’ve been meaning to get around to sharing pictures of this stuff, but I always end up forgetting. Here’s some pics of stuff I’ve picked up over the last three months. With the holiday sales starting, expect more pics over the next couple months.

These first two pics are things that were preorders. Vol. 5 of Gundam the Origin is the standard BD which I imported myself from Japan.

First Pic: Chaika the Coffin Princess Complete Collection (Sentai) and Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin V

Second Pic: Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans Season 1 Limited Ed (Funimation); Ranma 1/2 OVA & Movie Collection Limited Ed. (VIZ); your name Limited Ed, (Funimation); The Dragon Dentist (Sentai) and The Good Witch of the West (Maiden Japan)

The next pic has what I picked up from Sentai’s first DVD blowout sale a month or so back, with the exception of the Shadow Skill OVA. I picked that up in October while I was visiting Seattle from a HPB. Back to the Sentai stuff, I grabbed those under the impression that since they’re doing away with DVD releases (for the most part), any DVD-only release is probably now out-of-print or will be shortly.

Pic: A Little Snow Fairy, Sugar Complete Collection (Sentai); Godannar! Complete Collection (Sentai); Shadow Skill OVA (Manga Ent.); Tegami Bachi: Letter Bee Seasons 1 & 2 (Sentai); Psychic Squad Collections 1-4 (Sentai)

This last pic is of my rewards from the Skip Beat! Kickstarter. The jacket turned out better than I expected.

Anime Haul – May

These came in the mail a couple days ago. It’s hard to tell from the picture, but the Grimgar box has a canvas-like texture to it and the title is in gold foil. The One Punch Man box has a clear slipcover over the artbox and a big cutout that makes it look like Saitama is punching through it. The image of Saitama is the front of the bluray case.

Sound of the Sky I blind bought, as it’s an Aniplex title. I don’t want to be kicking myself later should Nozomi’s license ends and it goes back to Aniplex. FWIW, Funimation will be losing Black Butler Season 1 (another Aniplex show) at the end of the month, so if you want to own that and don’t, best get while it’s still readily available. Otherwise, you’ll have to deal with the secondary market (tracking down out-of-print releases is a PITA) or Aniplex prices, should they re-release it themselves. Though, I wouldn’t hold out for an Aniplex re-release, as they’ve shown that they don’t really care to release backcatalog titles. Heck, there’s some newer shows they have the license to that they never bothered to release in the first place (Samurai Flamenco, Mushishi Season 2 and so on).

Anime Haul – March

Some stuff that came in over the last couple weeks. The release of Metropolis in the top right is the UK BD/DVD steelbook that I imported via Amazon UK. I picked it up because the bluray release the US got was a BD-R and I don’t deal with burned media (pressed discs FTW). I can’t use the DVD included due to region compatibility issues. However, I only really care about the bluray and there are no compatibility issues there, despite the packaging being marked region B.

Holiday Haul – Part 4

Just five items this time, that came in three separate orders. In the first pic, Cobra the Animation and Fractale are from RightStuf’s holiday sale and Gundam the Origin IV (standard BD) was a preorder from Amazon JP.

The second pic has Hana Yori Dango (aka Boys over Flowers) and Umi Monogatari. I already own the VIZ singles for Hana Yori Dango, but the Discotek set also includes the “movie” that VIZ never released. Plus it takes up less space (1 double width case vs 12 singles). When you have a large collection, you need to save space wherever you can. I’ll probably dump the singles at an HPB the next time I’m in the Seattle area.

One more order left to come in and that will be it for the year.

Holiday Haul – Part 3

The Funimation sets I picked up from the Rightstuf holiday sale arrived a couple days ago. Mostly older releases that I’ve just been wait for a good price on.

Aquarion Evol S.A.V.E. Collection (BD/DVD), The Empire of Corpses (BD/DVD), Tsubasa Season 1 & 2 S.A.V.E. Collections (both BD), Dance in the Vampire Bund (BD/DVD), Oh Edo Rocket (DVD), One Piece Collections 15-16 (DVD), Red Data Girl (DVD), Shonen Hollywood Season 2 (DVD)

Holiday Haul – Part 2

Two more orders came in yesterday. First one is from the TRSI holiday sale. It consists of Kill la Kill Vols 1-5 blurays, with 2 being the LE version. I did it that way so I can “Frankenstein” my own boxset, as Aniplex is kinda slow doing it themselves.

Next is my second order from the Black Friday sale that Sentai had at their store. Order consists of Hayate the Combat Butler Season 1, Natsuyuki Rendezvous (upgrading my DVD) and Tari Tari on bluray and Jewel Bem Hunter Lime on DVD.

Next package should arrive in the next couple days. Most of what’s coming are older Funimation releases.

Holiday Haul – Part 1

It’s that time of year again and wallets are weeping everywhere. Yes, the holiday sales have begun and cheap anime blurays and DVDs are everywhere. My first (of what will probably be several) dips into these sales arrived today. I got these at the Right Stuf holiday sale. Seraph of the End Collector’s Edition was the Mega Deal for the first day of the sale. Also grabbed the Boueibu bundle from the first day, since I doubt we’ll be getting a cheaper complete set anytime soon (or at all).

As I mentioned at the forum I normally hang around, the cases that PONYCAN chose for the Boueibu sets are annoyingly large. If you have or have seen NIS America’s long artboxes, they’re roughly the same size. I’m very tempted to transfer the blurays and DVDs to a single 6-disc 14mm case and make my own cover for it, because these things are really silly. The rest of the contents (CDs, mini-posters, booklets) and packaging would just get boxed up with all the other crazy things that have been included with our home video releases (and believe me, there have been some really strange pack-ins over the years).

Pic of the insides of the first volume.

Next package is due in on Monday, so pics of that when it comes in.

Has anyone else participated in any of the sales? Anything in particular you’re hoping to pick up this year?
