Winter ’17-’18 Simulcast Roundup

Now that the streaming announcement phase is just about over, let’s see where everything ended up.

Crunchyroll / Funimation

It’s no surprise that that this team has picked up the majority of the season, including some highly anticipated shows. And just like the last few seasons, everything here will be getting a simuldub from Funimation.

  • Basilisk: Ouka Ninpouchou
  • Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen
  • citrus
  • Dagashi Kashi 2
  • Darling in the FranXX
  • Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku
  • Gin no Guardian 2nd Season
  • Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens
  • Hakyuu Houshin Engi
  • Itou Junji Collection, The
  • Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san
  • Overlord II
  • Pop Team Epic
  • Toji no Miko
  • Zoku Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru

The only thing that seems to be missing is the second season of Saiki. At this point, there has been no mention of it whatsoever. Either there’s licensing issues or maybe the first season didn’t do well enough to bother grabbing the new season.

  • Gakuen Babysitters
  • gdgd Men’s Party (short)
  • Hataraku Onii-san! (short)
  • Hitori no Shita: The Outcast 2
  • IDOLiSH7
  • Märchen Mädchen
  • Miira no Kaikata
  • Mitchiri Neko (short)
  • Kaijuu Girls: Ultra Kaijuu Gijinka Keikaku 2nd Season (short)
  • Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san
  • Ryuuou no Oshigoto!
  • Sanrio Danshi
  • Sora Yori mo Tooi Basho
  • Yowamushi Pedal: Glory Line
  • Yuru Camp△

Seeing as the simulcast the first season of Spiritpact, I would assume they will have the second once it starts at the end of February.

Amazon Prime

Yes, you’re reading that right. After just one year of operation, Amazon has done away with Anime Strike. While they will still have some exclusive shows from their deals with noitaminA (Fuji TV) and Animeism (MBS), you should only need a Prime Video sub to watch these shows ($8.99/month after 30-day free trial).

  • Beatless
  • Killing Bites
  • Koi wa Ameagari no You ni
  • Kokkoku

HIDIVE / Sentai Filmworks

The downside to Anime Strike going away, is that HIDIVE / Sentai’s Winter lineup is a bit lackluster. I would assume this is because Sentai is no longer getting backing from Amazon.

Another oddity, is that they are also simulcasting Pop Team Epic, along with Crunchyroll, Funimation and few other sites. According to Funimation, there is no exclusivity on the title, so just about anyone can stream it. It will be interesting to see who has home video rights when the time comes.

  • DamePri Anime Caravan
  • Hakumei to Mikochi
  • Mitsuboshi Colors
  • Nanatsu no Bitoku
  • Pop Team Epic
  • Takunomi. (short)

On the positive side of Anime Strike’s death, AS exclusive shows are slowly getting unlocked for viewing in the US. So far, the 5 shows listed below are now available and I would assume the rest will follow in time. Subscriptions are pretty affordable at $3.99/month, though you will have to either watch on your computer or a mobile device (Android / iOS), as they are still working on apps for other devices (Roku, XBox One, and so on).

  • Anonymous Noise
  • Armed Girl’s Machivellism
  • Grimoire of Zero
  • Hitorijime My Hero
  • Kabukibu!

Aniplex of America

As usual, these should be, at the very least, on Crunchyroll.

  • Today’s Menu for Emiya Family (ONA)
  • Record of Grandcrest War
  • Slow Start

They have one of the most anticipated shows of the season with Violet Evergarden. Though, if you’re in the US, don’t bother looking for it just yet, as it’s not planned to appear here till sometime in the spring. (For those in one of the areas that’s getting the simulcast, congrats!) In the meantime, here’s what’s been added recently or coming soon.

  • A.I.C.O. -Incarnation- (Mar. 9th)
  • B: The Beginning (Mar. 2nd)
  • Devilman crybaby (up now)
  • Fate/Apocrypha Season 2 (Feb. 9th)
  • Godzilla: Planet of Monsters (film; up now)

As for other Winter shows, I would assume they have the new season of Seven Deadly Sins and maybe Fate/Extra: Last Encore. If that’s the case, then I wouldn’t expect to see either till they have a dub available.
